    Keratosis Pilaris

    Keratosis Pilaris

    Keratosis Pilaris is a common skin problem. Sometimes the term “ingrown hairs” may cause confusion. However, for the sake of simplicity, doctor will separate it into 2 common diseases, which are found in Thai nationals, according to the cause. Since the cause, treatment and prognosis are different.

    1. Keratosis Pilaris   usually occurs in childhood to adulthood, commonly due to heredity with malfunction in upper skin proliferation. It’s caused by blockages that block the hairs to stick out of the pores. Thus, black bumps occur along those pores like chicken skin which is very inflammatory as red pustules. It’s typically occurred on the upper arm and outer thigh. The treatment can be difficult. The symptom often reoccurs even after the treatment.

    2. Pseudofolliculitis usually caused by improper plucking and shaving, which cause injury to the upper skin layer that block the hairs to stick out of the pores normally. Thus, black bumps occur along those pores. These are potentially cause inflammatory, black blister, pustules and become scars later.

    Keratosis Pilaris is a common skin problem but affects external appearance and patient’s mental. It’s the disease that would be difficult to be treated, inflammatory and reoccurred even after the treatment. Scar formation results in a loss of confidence while wearing sleeveless to meet people. But with current advanced technology and expertise and experience, Keratosis Pilaris can be cured and long-term safe.
